The
Workshop:
Institute
of Botany together with Vilnius University and Lithuanian Mycological
Society organised the workshop "Conservation of lichen rich biotopes
and endangered species" in Birai on May 11–16, 2006.
The event was organised as a part of Nordplus Neighbour project "Monitoring
lichens - monitoring with lichens. North European network for training
to monitor environmental diversity and conditions using lichens".
AIM
To evaluation of the current state and trends in lichen rich biotope conservation
and discussion of the common method for monitoring lichen communities.
CO-ORDINATION
Network co-ordinator: Dr. Vagn Alstrup (Botanical Museum, University of
Copenhagen)
Co-ordinating
organisation: Nordic Lichenological Society.
Local organiser – Dr. Jurga Motiejunaite (Institute of Botany).
PARTICIPATANS
29 persons
from 8 countries took part: Lithuania (4), Denmark (3), Russia (10), Estonia
(5), Finland (2), Sweden (3), Norway (1), Iceland (1). 26 presentations
were made, 3 thematic discussions took place.
FIELD
Lichen-rich biotopes on northern Lithuania were studied during four field
trips.
OUTCOME
A Report including conclusions and presentatnions is available here.
Field trip
results will be published in the journal “Botanica Lithuanica”.
